Everyone knows about the famous trio of birds in Pokemon. That’s why The Legendary Flight event adds the iconic Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres into the fray, but in their Dynamax versions. You can battle and catch these Pokemon so that they join your team. But of course, it won’t be easy, which is why they’ll only show up in specific Max Battles for the first time.

Event Schedule
The Legendary Flight event lasts three weeks with different Pokemon each week. Each legendary bird appears first during Max Monday from six in the evening to seven in the evening local time. After that first hour, each bird stays around at certain Power Spots for one full week. This gives you many chances to battle and catch them.

The Max Monday hour means the featured bird shows up at every Power Spot. During the rest of the week they show up at some Power Spots. Check your map often to find Max Battles near you.
Featured Pokemon
Dynamax Articuno, Dynamax Zapdos, and Dynamax Moltres arrive in Pokemon GO during this event. These are the first legendary Pokemon you can get as Dynamax forms. They show up in five star Max Battles, which is a new harder level for Max Battles.
All three legendary birds can be shiny during this event. After you beat them in battle, you go to the catch screen where you might see the shiny version. The shiny rates are not boosted like Community Day events, so you may need many battles to find one.
Each bird keeps its normal type strengths and weaknesses. Use Pokemon with super effective moves to deal more damage during Max Battles.
Additional Max Battle Pokemon
Each week has different Dynamax Pokemon along with the legendary birds. These Pokemon help you build strong teams to battle the featured legendary. Some of these Pokemon can also be shiny.

These Pokemon show up in regular Max Battles at Power Spots. Catch them and make them stronger to use against the legendary birds.
Timed Research
Special Timed Research becomes available each weekend before a legendary bird arrives. Complete these tasks to get Pokemon that work well against the upcoming legendary. The research also gives you Candy and Max Particles to make your battle team stronger.

Each Timed Research period turns on a special bonus. You earn double Stardust for catching Pokemon during the research time. This helps you collect resources while building your battle team.
The research tasks focus on catching and making counter Pokemon stronger. Complete all tasks before time runs out to get the full rewards. The research ends at seven in the evening on the final day.

Battle Strategy
Max Battles need teamwork to win. You need several trainers working together to beat five star bosses. The legendary birds have lots of health and strong attacks that can knock out your Pokemon fast.
Use the Campfire app to find other trainers near you. The app shows nearby Max Battle activity and lets you work with other players. You can mark yourself as going to let others know you plan to join.
Build teams with type advantages against each bird. Rock type moves work well against all three legendary birds. Water and Electric moves beat Articuno and Moltres well. Ice moves are strong against Zapdos.
Make your Dynamax Pokemon stronger before battles. Higher power Dynamax Pokemon do better in Max Battles. Use the Max Particles from Timed Research and shop bundles to increase their strength.
Get healing items ready before Max Monday. Max Battles use normal Pokemon healing items when your team faints. Bring lots of Potions and Revives to keep battling.
The Legendary Flight event gives you three chances to catch famous legendary Pokemon in new forms. Plan your week around the Max Monday debuts and use the longer availability times to complete your collection.
